Myriah S. Downs is a civil litigation attorney who focuses her practice in personal injury, wrongful death, employment, and professional negligence. In addition, Myriah has handled insurance coverage disputes, municipal and utility litigation, and a wide range of employment matters including executive compensation, leave and accommodation, workplace discrimination investigations, and the Federal Employers’ Liability Act. Before joining Wilson Smith Cochran Dickerson, Myriah represented the State of Oklahoma in economic development matters concerning SALT incentives, investigated law enforcement use of force and misconduct claims, and was the first civilian recipient of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Chief’s Special Recognition Award for her contributions to equitable civil asset forfeiture reform. In addition to her legal practice, Myriah previously served as the Chair of the Oklahoma Bar Association Diversity Committee and as a Board Member for the Oklahoma Association of Black Lawyers. Myriah is also a graduate of the Oklahoma Bar Association Leadership Academy. Myriah earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law. During law school, Myriah served as a Senior Staff Member of the Energy Law Journal, was inducted into the Order of the Barristers, and was elected Regional Chair for the National Black Law Students Association. Myriah earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Arkansas State University.

  • Successfully defended corporate entities in negligence and personal injury actions involving catastrophic injuries and wrongful death stemming from motor vehicle collisions.
  • Conducted workplace harassment investigations and favorably resolved claims on behalf of employers in connection with U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission proceedings alleging sex, race, disability, and pregnancy discrimination.
  • Achieved dismissal with prejudice of professional negligence action against an insurance adjuster involving breach of fiduciary duty and failure to procure insurance claims.
  • Represented corporate entities at public hearings before state utility and transportation regulation commissions and secured necessary permits and approvals for private developments and capital improvements.
  • Obtained summary dismissal of negligence action against transportation company for the opposing party’s failure to timely make and comply with discovery requirements. Successfully drafted the associated appellate pleadings and the dismissal was upheld on appeal by the state supreme court.

Personal Interests and Activities

Outside her law practice, Myriah is a contemporary visual artist whose paintings have been featured in galleries and private collections throughout the United States. As an artist, she has served as a Chair and juror for art exhibitions. Myriah is also a certified yoga instructor and volunteers her time teaching yoga to underserved communities.
